For most of our large-scale events, we recommend working with Fogg’s Water Taxi (207-415-8493) to create a custom charter schedule for guest/vendor transportation.
It takes about 10 minutes to get to Fortland from Bug Light or from downtown Portland.
-
We have picnic tables and adirondack chairs set up within the Parade Ground + Community Tent for normal campground use, for about 50 people.
We also have a large collection of cedar furniture (farm tables, benches + picnic tables) that can be utilized during the event, for an additional fee.
-
Yes! We can allow access to a yurt and/or tent cabin on the day of the event.
-
The city of Portland has quiet hours from 10pm - 7am.

Trash on the island can be removed in one of two ways:
Renters can be responsible for the removal of all trash from the island involving using your own bags and separate transportation of the trash and disposal.
Fortland can handle the removal of trash transport and disposal for a cost of $50 per 42 gallon bag.
Looking to minimize the cost?
Ensure in your contracts that vendors are responsible for their own waste and trash removal and disposal
When coming to the island, think about what waste (ie. boxes, plastics, extra bubble wrap) can be disposed of prior to island arrival
Fortland recommends and helps with composting options, along with recycling bottles and returnables
-
Most people just shift more of their event to happen under the Community Tent or inside the West Bastion. A little extra lighting, candles, and music, but it remains a beautiful experience.
-
Our beautifully furnished yurts and tent cabins can accommodate up to 23 overnight guests.
For an additional fee, the overnight guest capacity can be increased to accommodate up to 50 total guests by utilizing 10 pitch-your-own tent areas.
-
We have 3 yurts and 4 tents with a total of 16 beds - 7 queens and 9 twins. Yurts can sleep up to 4 people, and tents can sleep up to 3, in most cases. If you book a stay and will be using more than just the queen bed, the additional twin(s) will be made up for you prior to your arrival.
-
We do! Supima cotton sheets, comforters, fleece blankets, and two pendleton towels are included with each site. Beds will be made up for you prior to your arrival based on occupancy.
-
The restroom is a 2-stall composting outhouse. Each side has a urinal and a toilet that diverts liquids and solids. They are super clean, and we have staff monitoring them frequently during all events.
For events with 100+ guests, additional rental restrooms may be required.
We provide portable solar showers for use at each site.
-
There is a Community Tent which serves as the area for guest 'kitchens', which include grills and stoves, all cooking utensils, and flatware and silverware. We also have a central firepit for evening or morning fires. We require that guests keep all food and eating in the Community Tent area and not in sites! This is to be sure that the sites remain pest-free.
-
Everything at Fortland is run by limited solar power, so we rely on good old fashioned ice and coolers. Should you be staying longer than the ice will last, we can help you get more.
-
FOOD: Guests/vendors bring their own food, coolers, and ice, and we provide cool, shady storage space for food and coolers.
WATER: We carry in and provide drinking water for overnight guests.
COFFEE: Fresh, hot coffee is made for any interested guests every morning!
-
Each guest site and our central event tent have solar-powered battery packs for charging phones + devices. There is no wifi, but the cell signal is strong to use as a hotspot in most areas.
