Fortland is Wildly Unique.

Our 16-acre island venue combines stunning coastal beauty and rare historic stone architecture to create a wedding adventure that couples and guests will never forget. Fortland is located within the grounds of historic Fort Scammel on House Island, just a 10-minute boat ride from downtown Portland.

Arriving at Fortland, you’ll be greeted by the panoramic views of Portland Harbor, surrounding islands and the open ocean, creating a breathtaking backdrop for your special day. Exchange vows at one of Fortland's intimate ceremony locations, host a cocktail hour or dinner underground in the fort’s stone bastion, and dance the night away under the stars. Delight your guests with unique experiences, like a tour of the Civil War-era architecture and tunnels, or an overnight stay in a beautifully-furnished yurt or tent cabin. Venue Features

The Bastion.

A beautiful space for cocktail hour or dinner by candlelight. The priceless framed views of the open water, the iconic Portland Headlight, and the perfect pastel sunset over Portland set this space apart from any other venue in Maine.
The Dock.

Whether for your ceremony, dinner or dancing, our 1500 sq foot dock is a beautiful waterfront option for gathering with a view of Fort Gorges, Portland, and Falmouth Foreside.
The Community Tent.

This 40’ diameter tent is a great place to get out of the hot sun or warm summer rain. This is where you go when you’re gathering to cook and eat a meal in our outdoor kitchen or simply want to pass your time playing cards and resting.
The Overlook Deck.

On a clear day, you can see four famous Casco Bay lighthouses from this 500 sq ft deck. It’s a photogenic spot for anything from a quiet wedding ceremony, to a casual dessert with your friends and family, to watching the sunset from a comfy Adirondack.
The Parade Ground.

Gather with your guests in the central lawn space, the perfect place to enjoy an outdoor cocktail hour, and to end the evening around the crackling campfire.
The Beaches.

Whether you’re looking for a perfect picnic spot, a swim in the ocean, or a hunting ground for sea glass of all colors, each of our beaches has a different flavor of rest or adventure for everyone’s tastes.
The Sites.

Our three well-appointed yurts and four tent cabins, with a total of seven queen beds and nine twins, sleep up to 23 people comfortably. We also offer additional pitch-your-own tent sites for island takeovers.

It takes a *special couple* to choose an off-grid island adventure for their wedding day. We at Fortland are real humans stewarding a very real, magically preserved historic island, and we love to find people who suit this place as much as IT suits THEM. Our couples have some or all of the following qualities:

a love of the outdoors, the ocean, or the Maine coast
a desire to have their wedding in a UNIQUE spot, not just another (albeit lovely) New England barn
an interest in providing an EXPERIENCE for their guests, one that they'll remember and treasure even aside from it being your wedding :)

About Fortland

The Micro Wedding.

Up to 50 guests

This three-hour package includes the use of Fortland’s Wharf and cedar benches for your ceremony, followed by a celebratory toast. Afterward, you’ll have time to enjoy stunning photo opportunities at Sea Glass Beach and the historic West Bastion.

Day-Only Weddings.

Up to 125 guests

For a more immersive experience, this package provides the full Fortland wedding experience without requiring an overnight stay. Find your perfect wedding vendors to accompany you on your day and we have the rest done for you!

Overnight Weddings.

Up to 125 guests + up to 50 overnight guests.

This option provides the full Fortland wedding experience, complete with overnight accommodations in our elegantly furnished yurts and tents. With scenic ocean views, a touch of sea salt breeze, a cozy campfire under the stars, you and your overnight guests will have a unique memory you will never forget.
